Giants @ Dolphins Week 5 Game Preview
Jonathan Fuller previews the Week 5 matchup between the Giants and Dolphins from a betting perspective.
New York Giants @ Miami Dolphins
The Giants will travel down to Miami for what would have seemed like an exciting matchup before the season began. In reality, this game has the widest spread of the week, as the Giants have looked completely inept through four games while the Dolphins appear to be legitimate contenders.
Miami’s offensive efficiency has been bordering on comical as they run circles around every offense outside of San Francisco and Buffalo.
As great as Miami has been, they are coming off of their worst performance after suffering a 28-point loss to the Bills last week. They are in a good bounce-back spot against a Giants defense that has yielded plenty of fantasy points to their opponents at all positions.
As usual, Tyreek Hill checks in as one of the best WR plays of the week, but the real story is that De’Von Achane has quickly ascended to one of the most exciting players in the NFL and checks in as a top 10 RB in the Fantasy Life consensus ranks.
Both Jaylen Waddle and Raheem Mostert have enough upside to be in your lineup as well and could be nice leverage plays in DFS if they happen to break the big plays instead of their more popular counterparts.
For the Giants, their brutal start to the season has been flying a bit under the radar thanks to their one win and the existence of other trainwreck teams like the Bears and Broncos.
The Giants have essentially played one good half of football when they came back to beat the Cardinals. If we exclude the second half of that game, the Giants have been outscored by their opponents 114-15 in their other 3.5 games of football.
Since Saquon Barkley went out in Week 2, the Giants have produced essentially no fantasy-relevant performances. The Giants offense also ranks dead last in EPA per play on the season. Yes, even below the Jets and Steelers.
They are going to have to turn in their best performance of the year to keep up with the Dolphins' offense, but they might be able to find some success against a Miami defense that has given up fantasy points across the board.
There is hope that Saquon will return this week which would provide a major boost to the offense. He checks in as the RB13 or higher for each of the rankers in the Fantasy Life Week 5 ranks.
You may be stuck starting Darren Waller if you don’t have a better option, but it’s tough to paint too rosy of a picture until we see him convert his targets into fantasy points.
Daniel Jones is actually a decent play this week despite the overall lack of success, and we could see him put up a similar performance to Week 2 when New York fell behind early, and Jones managed to put up huge fantasy numbers in their comeback effort.
It seems far less likely the Giants could pull a similar comeback against the Dolphins team, but garbage time points count all the same, and you could do a lot worse than starting Daniel Jones this week.
