Rashee Rice Dynasty Fantasy Football Value: Buy, Sell or Hold on the Chiefs WR1?

Rashee Rice Dynasty Fantasy Football Value: Buy, Sell or Hold on the Chiefs WR1?

Sam Wallace breaks down how to approach Rashee Rice in dynasty fantasy football leagues early in the 2026 offseason.

Talent has never been a question for Kansas City Chiefs wideout Rashee Rice. Unfortunately for dynasty fantasy football managers, it's off-the-field issues that are making things challenging.

After a promising rookie campaign that saw him top 900 receiving yards and seven TDs back in 2023, a knee injury cost him all but three games of 2024. Fast forward to this fall, Rice served a six-game suspension following a hit-and-run incident.

However, despite the missed time, Rice picked up right where he left off. From Weeks 7-15, on a per-game basis, he averaged:

  • 9.8 targets
  • 71 receiving yards
  • 18.8 PPR points

Elite talent with an elite QB—the best combination for fantasy managers.

Rice ultimately finished the season on Injured Reserve (concussion).

With the latest news coming out about Rice, combined with the injury to Patrick Mahomes and the fact that the Chiefs will miss the postseason, there's plenty going on in KC. How should dynasty managers value Rice moving forward?

What Is Rashee Rice's Dynasty Fantasy Football Value?

First off, if you have him on your roster, holding him is the best course of action. Whenever there are off-the-field questions, injury concerns and general organizational chaos, staying the course is the move. Yes, you could be left holding the bag if a lengthy suspension (or worse) comes to light, but I try to avoid the uncertainty as often as possible.

If you don't have Rice, it becomes a matter of both cost and roster construction.

I mentioned how Rice managers should hold. That, inherently, makes acquiring him via trade a bit more challenging. However, if there's a nervous manager who is simply looking to offload and cash out, securing whatever draft capital they can, by all means, offer a mid-second round pick and see if that gets it done.

If the cost is a bit higher, meaning the manager is still factoring in his age, offensive situation and past production, a mid/late-first round pick is going to be needed to land Rice on your team.

As for roster construction, I'm more apt to lean into the unknown if I'm staring down a multi-year rebuild. Rice becomes intriguing if I can afford to wait out a potential long term suspension and I don't need him for at least a season. However, if I'm a contending team, and the price of acquisition is too high, I'm generally staying away.

Once my teams are squarely in their "win-now" dynasty window, I try to lessen my exposure to risky assets as much as I can. It's like getting closer to retirement and not wanting to lose everything you've worked so hard for in the final moments.

Like most things in dynasty fantasy football, how you approach someone like Rice comes down to risk management and risk tolerance. Make an honest assessment of your roster and determine how patient (or not) you can be, and then go from there.
