Week 12 Dynasty Notebook: Veterans to Trade For in the Stretch Run

Week 12 Dynasty Notebook: Veterans to Trade For in the Stretch Run

Sam Wallace shares his top five veteran players to target if you're making a run at the championship in your dynasty fantasy football league.

We're past the midway point of November and the fantasy playoffs are looming. Here are five cost-effective veterans to trade for before your league's trade deadline. These low-cost/high-impact players are the perfect addition to any competing dynasty fantasy football team.

Davante Adams, WR - Rams

If there's someone who knows a thing or two about playing with MVP-level QBs, it's Davante Adams. After spending most of his career with Aaron Rodgers, Adams is enjoying a late-career breakout campaign alongside Matthew Stafford.

Just how good has Stafford been this season? Here's what Peter Overzet had to say heading into Week 11:

The 37-year-old Stafford has thrown four TDs in three straight games. He has 20 TDs and no INTs over the last six games and 25 TDs and two INTs on the season. He is the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for four or more TDs and zero INTs in three consecutive games.

That's pretty, pretty good.

Stafford has 27 TDs to just two INTs and hasn't thrown an INT since Week 3.

Adams's 10 TDs so far this season are already more than he scored in either of the last two seasons. He's also not just a TD-dependent asset. He's averaging 8.6 targets per game on the season, and that's playing alongside Puka Nacua.

He's the ideal trade candidate for a dynasty team looking to make a win-now trade acquisition. He won't/shouldn't cost you elite value given his age (32), but he offers both week-winning and league-winning upside.

Stefon Diggs, WR - Patriots

It was a relatively sluggish start to the season for Stefon Diggs, but he's certainly turned it around over the last two months.

Mike Vrabel and Drake Maye have the Patriots rolling again, and honestly, it's pretty fun to watch. Diggs has been a big reason for their success; let's dive in.

Heading into Monday Night, Diggs was the WR20 in PPR scoring. He has scored a TD or topped 100 receiving yards in four straight games and is finally starting to look like his once-dominant self again.

On the season, he's averaging 6.5 targets per game, but he's been much more consistent in his production over the last several weeks.

The only knock against him is his Week 14 bye, which falls just one week before the fantasy playoffs are likely to begin. If you don't mind not having his services in what could be the most important week of your season (up to that point), Diggs offers a low-cost, high-upside option for you to consider as your dynasty team makes a title run.

Jakobi Meyers, WR - Jaguars

A long-time fantasy favorite of mine, Jakobi Meyers (once again) offers a unique opportunity for savvy dynasty managers.

Now a member of the Jaguars, Meyers is filling in as the No. 1 option for Trevor Lawrence while Brian Thomas Jr. (knee) remains out. Travis Hunter is also out for the remainder of the season.

This weekend, Meyers posted his best game with his new team with a line of 5/64 on six targets. Even once BTJ returns to the field, Meyers is more than capable of handling secondary duties, and he's even demonstrated an ability to be a No. 1 option if the team requires it.

While my first two veteran suggestions are over 30 years old, Meyers is only 29, so he has that going for him. A change in scenery is never guaranteed to benefit a player, but all Meyers has done is produce for fantasy no matter where he's been. I would trade for him without hesitation and enjoy WR3/Flex production.

Kareem Hunt, RB - Chiefs

That's enough talking about wideouts; let's move over to the real engines of the offense…the RBs.

Kareem Hunt has had a turbulent career that began in Kansas City and looks like it may end there as well, after a five-year stint in Cleveland.

Now 30 years old, Hunt has played the backup role to Isiah Pacheco. However, the angry-running incumbent has had a tough time both staying healthy and being productive this season. In his eight games, Pacheco has just one TD.

On the flip side, Hunt has been more productive even before Pacheco went down with a knee injury. Hunt has had the backfield to himself for two full weeks and has posted the following stat lines:

  • Week 9 - 11 rushing attempts, 49 rushing yards, 1 TD
  • Week 10 - Bye
  • Week 11 - 13 rushing attempts, 59 rushing yards, 1 TD

Even once Pacheco returns, it'll be hard to keep Hunt (7 total TDs) off the field. I believe the Chiefs will still be in the mix near the end of the season, which makes him an ideal trade candidate if you are looking to add RB depth before the stretch run of the season.

Aaron Jones, RB - Vikings

As a lifelong Packer fan, it's been tough watching Aaron Jones have success in a Vikings uniform. While I'm happy for the player, I do miss having him in Green Bay,

Last year, his first in Minnesota, saw Jones top 1,100 rushing yards and 400 receiving yards, score 7 total TDs, and finish as the RB15.

This season, a hamstring injury cost him four games early in the season. Now a few weeks removed from returning to the field, he's starting to return to form. He's now topped double-digit fantasy points (PPR) in three straight weeks and is heading into a divisional showdown against the Packers in Green Bay this upcoming weekend.

Adding a 30-year-old RB with a recent history of soft tissue injuries is always a bit of a gamble, but so is not having any additional RB depth on your roster as you head into the most important weeks of your season.

Jones is a proven veteran with an elite head coach. That alone makes him worth a look before the fantasy playoffs arrive.
