Buy, Sell, Hold: Ashton Jeanty, Bryce Young, and More

Cooter Doodle shares what she's buying, selling, and holding at this point in the NFL preseason, from Giants running backs to fantasy draft etiquette.

Get your wallets ready! It's time for buyin', sellin', and holdin'.

BUY

CAR_panthers-logo.svg BUY Bryce Young Is Baaaaack

It took Young some time to heat up last season (to put it nicely). Hell, he was benched for Andy F’kin Dalton at one point. But after Carolina’s bye in Week 11, Bryce was throwing touchdowns in every game and adding in some of his own rushing touchdowns to boot.

Bryce Young after CAR’s bye:

  • Week 12: 21-263-1 (rush: 3-20-0) QB14
  • Week 13: 26-298-1 (rush: 3-17-1) QB 8
  • Week 14: 19-191-1 (rush: 7-29-0) QB 20
  • Week 15: 19-219-1 (rush: 3-12-1) QB 18
  • Week 16: 17-158-2 (rush: 5-68-1) QB 2
  • Week 17: 15-203-2 (rush: 2-8-0) QB 19
  • Week 18: 25-251-3 (rush: 5-24-2) QB 1

Fast forward to 2025: The Panthers have added a new, shiny weapon on offense in 1st rounder Tetairoa McMillan. If Young can keep up his pace from the latter part of last season and find McMillan as often as projected, he’ll be a fun late-late-round target for you degenerates who love to draft a QB outside of the first 10 rounds.

BUY Draft Etiquette For All

This is your friendly reminder to:

  • Complete your league punishments. Don’t make the league beg for it. If you lost and your punishment is required, do it. That, or I give your league full permission to kick your ass to the curb.
  • Pay your league dues. Your commissioner isn’t here to act as your personal lender. Pay before the draft. That, or I give your league full permission to kick your ass to the curb.
  • Show up to the draft on time. We’ve all been waiting long enough to get this thing started.
  • #BYOCS: Bring Your Own Cheat Sheet. No, you can’t take a peek at mine. Get your own.

SELL

NYG_giants-logo.svg SELL Tyrone Tracy

Hold me tight. I’m scared.

Of what? The Giants’ backfield. Not only did they draft Cam Skattebo this offseason, but Devin Singletary is getting more playtime than we’d like to see.

The Giants' Utilization of their RBs during their preseason debut revealed a 57% route participation rate for Singletary. He also outsnapped Tracy in playtime with the starters. From this week’s Utilization Report:

While it’s not a nail in the coffin for Tracy, it’s worth keeping an eye on, especially for a team whose coaching staff is on the chopping block after last year’s 3-14 season.

Tracy’s fresh-legged competition (read: Skattebo) hopes to see the field in the next week. And it’s possible that Tracy is here for a good time, not a long time.

SELL Post-Draft Rosterbating

My husband and I have been watching Shrinking most nights, and Harrison Ford’s character said it best: “You’re allowed 15 minutes to grieve.

Well, grieve or rosterbate … They’re two sides of the same coin. Let me guess. You f*cked up your draft? Your plan didn’t go as planned? Or maybe you think all of your loser friends were the ones who botched the big day.

Either way: You get 15 minutes. That’s it.

Fifteen minutes to rosterbate, cry, send screenshots to your loved ones, victory lap, re-read your draft grades, lie down in the fetal position and pout ... Spend your time as you see fit. But once your 15 minutes are up, that’s it.

Draft days are fun, but you aren’t going to win or lose your championship on draft day. There’s plenty of work to get done on waivers for the next few months. Don’t get too ahead of yourself just yet.

Good luck. Have fun. Oh, and hurry. Your time is almost up…

HOLD

OAK_raiders-logo.svg HOLD Ashton Jeanty

Here’s the thing: if you drafted early this offseason, you paid a high price for Ashton Jeanty. And it’s not surprising. He’s talented and has a “top five all-time score” in Dwain McFarland’s Super Model

BUT, after Jeanty’s preseason debut of 3 carries for (I don’t want to say it. Don’t make me say it…) negative one yard, the tides are starting to turn…

The negative statline isn’t great. That’s for sure. But what are you going to do about it?

You can either panic and sell, or hope that talent prevails. And this wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen preseason panic amount to nothing during the regular season. So the question is: Do you want to bet on the rookie? I do.

And if your league hasn’t drafted yet, maybe his ADP will continue to fall a few more spots before you’re on the clock.
