Buy, Sell, Hold: Caleb Williams, De'Von Achane, and More

Cooter Doodle shares what she's buying, selling, or holding this week, including the hype around Washington's rookie running back.

Get your wallets ready! It's time for buyin', sellin', and holdin'.

BUY

CHI_bears-logo.svg BUY Caleb Williams

Fact. Caleb Williams tied Brock Purdy (20) for passing TDs in 2024.

Fact. Caleb Williams threw for more yards than Drake Maye in 2024.

FACT. CALEB WILLIAMS DID THIS WHILE BEING SACKED 68 TIMES LAST YEAR.

FACT. THAT'S 16 MORE SACKS THAN THE 2ND MOST-SACKED QB (C.J. Stroud) IN 2024.

Damn. Give the little guy some grace.

And yet, Purdy and Maye are still being drafted ahead of Williams with ease (when they have question marks of their own). The 2025 Bears feel like they're fighting an uphill battle just to clear their name when all it takes is a ten-second clip from practice to bring down Williams's stock overnight.

Don't forget: Chicago has made major changes this offseason. If you're waiting 10+ rounds to draft a QB, you could do a lot worse than the first overall pick in 2024, who has a new and improved coaching staff, new offensive weapons in the likes of Luther Burden III and Colston Loveland, and high-end QB1 upside

Maybe, just maybe, it's okay to believe in Ben Johnson & Co.

OAK_raiders-logo.svg BUY Geno Smith

I'm not asking much of you when I say that you should roster the 25th quarterback coming off the board in 2025. That's chump change in this QB landscape!

But hear me out, because there's room for some upside with Geno, who just finished 4th at the position in passing yards last season. Now that he's supported by guys like Ashton Jeanty, Brock Bowers, and Jakobi Meyers on offense, it's not crazy to think Smith could replicate another 4k season. (Not to mention he's finally free from Seattle's bottom-of-the-barrel offensive lines.)

But before we get too excited, he's only projected for 22 TDs this season. Which checks out. Last year, despite throwing the ball 578 times (4th), he still only managed to throw 21 TDs. Meh.

But maybe we can blame Seattle's O-line just a little bit for that? And with a late-round price tag, is it really that much of a gamble?

Geno's at least earned himself a spot at the top 20 QB conversation table.

SELL

SELL Knowing Your League Settings (Justin's Version)

League settings? What are they good for? Absolutely nothin'!

At least… That's what my friend Justin thought.

I mean, why does it matter if your league can only start 1 QB at a time? Does that really affect anything? Who cares if it's not a SuperFlex league?

At least… That's what my friend Justin thought.

And with the fifth pick in the draft, Justin selects J… Jalen Hurts?? Yeah, Hurts at 1.05!

I don't know what he was thinking either! Our entire league was baffled. We've decided that Justin must have thought this was a SuperFlex leaguethe kind where you benefit from starting TWO QBs, not one... Otherwise, it's just sad. But we sure are having fun at his expense.

So remember: League settings do matter. Have an IR spot? Utilize it. Draft in a ton of leagues? Check your roster settings so you don't mix things up… It's the difference between drafting Jalen Hurts in the first or the fourth

WAS_commanders-logo.svg SELL Jacory Croskey-Merritt (Bill)

There's two sides to this coin.

  1. The hype train has gone completely off the rails after his 11-46-1 performance on Monday night. You could, in theory, trade Bill away for someone more proven in the NFL if the right fantasy manager is drooling to get their hands on the rookie RB. And don't get me wrong, his preseason footage has been fun, but Jacory's stock has quite literally never been higher. If you're a good negotiator, you could do some damage in a trade right now.
  2. If you're in any leagues with me, ignore everything I've just said. You should trade him to me at a very low cost because he only "broke off" his 27-yard TD against like… zero defenders? And what if Brian Robinson Jr. doesn't actually get traded?? And don't forget Austin Ekeler is still there! Plus, I heard that Jacory likes to put ketchup on his potato chips or something. Sell now before it's too late!! You know my number.

HOLD

MIA_dolphins-logo.svg HOLD De'Von Achane

Let's take a moment to do some deep breathing exercises. Why? Because drafting an RB in the 1st round who is now reported to have a soft tissue injury is NOT IDEAL. *deep breath*

But we're going to hold. Why? Because we have to, damnit!

Who in their right mind is going to trade top prices for *deep breath* a potentially-hurt-already-injury-prone-running-back-on-an-offense-that-falls-apart-anytime-their-franchise-QB-gets-hurt?

No one. That's who.

So unless your league is playing fantasy football in a deep, dark forest with limited internet access, we're just going to have to hold on and hope that Achane's current injury is as minor as reported

But if you are worried and want to do something about it, I do have one suggestion
