Players To Buy, Sell, and Hold in Fantasy Football 2025

BUY

DEN_broncos-logo.svg BUY All the Broncos

Yea yea yea. I know I'm technically Fantasy Life's resident Saints fan, but I'm wearing Broncos gear under my black and gold jerseys this season. IT'S NOT ILLEGAL! I CHECKED!!

So sue me. I'm officially bleeding gold and … orange. Here's why:

QB Bo Nix: Don't forget: Everyone and their momma thought Sean Payton reached on Bo Nix in the 2024 draft when the Broncos took him 12th overall. That "reach" has already paid off in Nix's rookie season.

  • 10 wins. Nix took the Broncos to their first playoff appearance since 2015.
  • 3,775 passing yards. Nix ranked 12th at the position / 1st among rookie QBs drafted in 2024.
  • 29 passing TDs. Nix ranked 6th at the position / 1st among rookie QBs drafted in 2024.
  • Rookie record. Nix ranked 2nd in NFL history for rookie passing TDs (29).

WR Courtland Sutton: Not only did Courtland Sutton just sign a 4-year contract extension worth $92m ($41m guaranteed), but Sean Payton can't stop talking about how much he loves big WRs

RB RJ Harvey: As an HC, Sean Payton has only drafted four RBs before Day 3. If you check the stats, those RBs dominated through the air and on the ground during their rookie seasons. If history repeats itself, RJ Harvey is in good company.

TE Evan Engram: Everyone knows Payton loves a versatile TE. We've seen TEs flourish in New Orleans, and most recently, Taysom Hill dominated in the fantasy landscape with his RB/QB/TE usage. Sean Payton has been adamant about utilizing a "joker" role in Denver and Engram is poised to fill it. Taysom Hill 2.0, anyone??

LAC_chargers-logo.svg BUY Omarion Hampton is That Guy

Oh, you thought I wouldn't be a company woman? When Matthew Berry says "Ride or Die," I shut up and buckle up. You can find me riding along in one of those little sidecars that people attach to their motorcycles. No steering. I am the Sean Connery to Berry's Indiana Jones.

Because if Berry has his foot on the gas, I'm feeling the wind in my hair just the same.

Sure, I could tell you that Omarion Hampton earned a 79 in the Rookie Super Model. Or we could talk about Najee Harris's lingering eye injury. Or I could even tell you about how much the Chargers LOVE to give their RBs the ball inside the 5-yard line.

But it's much easier than that. What Would Berry Do? He'd believe in someone. SO BELIEVE IN SOMEONE! Or if you respond better to negging: Grow a f*cking backbone for once, will you? You're too smart to play it safe all the time.

So yea, it's that simple. I'm buying Omarion Hampton. #WWBD.

SELL Draft Strategies

Let me be clear, you should know your draft strategies. You should be able to talk about:

  • Zero RB
  • Hero RB
  • Zero WR
  • Late TE
  • Elite TE

They are all serviceable and valid ways to construct a roster. And you should understand the benefits of each strategy. There's nothing wrong with being knowledgeable.

The problem lies in the execution.

I'm selling the notion that you should have a draft strategy locked and loaded before you even walk into your drafts. There are too many variables that will come into play at any given moment for you to commit to a locked-in, inflexible, predetermined plan!

The best drafters have an idea of a plan. Because when push comes to shove, when your leaguemates royally screw things up, you have to be flexible and pivot. Don't lock yourself into a strategy if it doesn't play out well in real time.

I mean… Imagine missing out on 2024's Saquon Barkley just because you said you'd draft WR/WR/WR at the start.

MIA_dolphins-logo.svg SELL Tyreek Hill is Happy to Be Here

Hill wanted out of Miami in January. Then, he said he was kidding.

And just last week, he went on his new Scorched Earth Tour where he:

I don't think THIS is what Tua Tagovailoa meant a few weeks ago when he said Tyreek was trying to rebuild his relationship with the team.

Sure, maybe it's just Tyreek Hill being Tyreek Hill. Or maybe the sunshine state just isn't for him.

But I have to admit, since coming to Miami:

  • 2022: 119-1,710-7
  • 2023: 119-1,799-13
  • 2024: 81-959-6

Hmm… It sure does look like Hill understood the offense.

HOLD

HOLD Rookie Fever

I'll be the first to admit it. When the rookie bug bites, it can be a life-altering experience. The night sweats… The screaming… But contracting Rookie Fever doesn't have to be a death sentence.

You just need to understand your recovery timeline. It can take weeks for rookies to warm up to an organization, take the field, make a name for themselves, and get the playing time we all think (*know*) they deserve.

But remember: Not all rookies are equal.

  • Brock Bowers was the TE5 right out of the gate last season.
  • It took 5 weeks before rookie QB Bo Nix broke into the Top 10 at the position.
  • Brian Thomas Jr. wobbled and wavered around the leader boards from WR 3 to WR 76 for the first half of the season before catching a consistent stride as a top-10 WR after his Week 12 bye.

The lesson: Be patient when the games begin. And hold on tight to the rookies you love most.

Hell, some people are still waiting for their favorite 2021 rookie TEs to break out. (Hey editors, can you link to Kyle Pitts here?)
