Pick-By-Pick Breakdown of My NFFC Mock Draft

Round 1, Pick 9 – Malik Nabers, WR, NYG

Love getting Nabers in the late first round. He has a chance, if things break right, to be a top-three receiver. The targets are going to be there. Nabers had 170 in 15 games as a rookie with bad quarterback play. There likely will be more than one quarterback for the Giants this season, but it’s an upgrade over last season. If Nabers can go from seven TDs to double-digits, he will be near the top.

Round 2, Pick 4 – Brian Thomas Jr., WR, JAX

I see Thomas as a first-round pick, so I’ll take him every time here. He’s going to play in the slot at times, which is ideal in a Liam Coen offense. Thomas had a strong finish to his rookie year with six straight games of double-digit targets and at least 86 yards in the final five games. Travis Hunter won’t hurt Thomas too much.

Round 3, Pick 9 – Tetairoa McMillan, WR, CAR

McMillan has been rising up draft boards. He’s the big target Bryce Young needed. No one on Carolina had a target share of more than 15% last season, and McMillan steps into a great spot where he will lead the team in targets. McMillan is a big target at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds.

Round 4, Pick 4 – Kenneth Walker, RB, SEA

Yes, we are all aware of Walker’s durability. He has missed nine games over the first three seasons and missed time in camp with a foot injury, but he was back at practice last week. Walker averaged 18.1 touches and scored seven touchdowns in the first five games last season despite playing behind a bad offensive line. With Klint Kubiak taking over as offensive coordinator, the running game is set to thrive.

Round 5, Pick 9 – TreVeyon Henderson, RB, NE

Henderson fell further than normal. He has been one of the biggest risers in the preseason and often goes in the third round. While Henderson doesn’t project to be a full-time back, he will play a big role in the offense, especially in the passing game.

Round 6, Pick 4 – Calvin Ridley, WR, TEN

Ridley finished with 1,000 yards for the second straight season despite awful quarterback play and not many catchable passes. The Titans offensive line is improved, and Cam Ward will help Ridley, who should be near the top in targets. Ridley only had four end zone targets last season.

Round 7, Pick 9 – Emeka Egbuka, WR, TB

Egbuka’s situation keeps getting better. While it didn’t look ideal when the Buccaneers drafted him in the first round, things have changed. Chris Godwin is coming off a second procedure on his ankle and could be out until October. Jalen McMillan has a severe neck injury and could miss half the season. Egbuka is dynamic and will make an impact immediately.

Round 8, Pick 4 – Ricky Pearsall, WR, SF

Pearsall is in a good spot to start the season. The 49ers are thin at wide receiver. Brandon Aiyuk will start the season on the PUP list, and there’s no clear timeline for his return. While Jauan Jennings is expected to be ready for Week 1, he has missed most of the summer with a calf injury. Pearsall had 14 catches for 200 yards with two TDs in the last two games last season. The 49ers were high on him and took him in the first round last year. The targets will be there to begin the season.

Round 9, Pick 9 – Travis Etienne, RB, JAX

With the receiver room stacked, it’s time to turn attention to running backs. The Jaguars backfield is murky, but Etienne has been mostly working with the first-team offense in camp. Etienne is a good pass-catching back and is worth taking a shot here.

Round 10, Pick 4 – Zach Charbonnet, RB, SEA

If you draft Kenneth Walker, getting Charbonnet is ideal. The Seahawks backfield is one to invest in. In six games without Walker last season, Charbonnet averaged 18.3 touches per game. There’s a chance Charbonnet plays a little more to keep Walker healthy.

Round 11, Pick 9 – Drake Maye, QB, NE

While taking a top-five QB creates peace of mind, I couldn’t pass on the receivers in the early rounds. If I miss out on the elite, it pays to wait. While Maye might seem risky, I see a QB1 finish. Maye averaged 38.3 rushing yards in 11 full starts last season without many designed runs. The offense was awful last season, and Maye fared well considering the environment. Stefon Diggs will help, and TreVeyon Henderson adds speed out of the backfield.

Round 12, Pick 4 – Brenton Strange, TE, JAX

The tight ends flew off the board. I prefer a stronger tight end, but if this were to happen in a 20-round draft, a second tight end would be drafted and would be the focus on the waiver wire. Strange could become the third target in the offense.

Round 13, Pick 9 – Braelon Allen, RB, NYJ

Allen has looked good in the preseason and has a chance to cut into the workload of Breece Hall. Jets offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand comes over from Detroit, where he was the passing game coordinator, and the team used two running backs.

Round 14, Pick 4 – Jaydon Blue, RB, DAL

While Blue was drafted in the fifth round, it was a deep running back class. Blue won’t be a three-down back, but he has a chance to play a bigger role considering the lack of quality running backs for Dallas. Blue will really excel in the passing game.

Round 15, Pick 9 – Arizona Cardinals defense/special teams

Round 16, Pick 4 – Tyler Loop, K, BAL
