Week 5 Fantasy Football Buy, Sell, Hold: 'Our Chubb Is Disappearing'

There's a value shift happening in Houston. Here's the action you need to take!

These types of articles are always written inside of a vacuum, but you're not living inside of one! That's why you need to take your personal league scoring and roster construction into account when making buy/sell/hold decisions.

If you've got a weak spot, it's time to start addressing it!

Do the work. Then, send the offers.

Now, let's get into some Buyin', Sellin', and Holdin'.

BUY

Bye Weeks matter

With juggernauts like Bijan Robinson, Rome Odunze, Romeo Doubs, and Josh Jacobs out for their teams' Bye in Week 5 (read: f*!$#), it's time to plan accordingly.

In fact, it's time to really get all of your Bye weeks in line.

If you're staring down the barrel of an 0-4 or 1-3 start, you can't afford to have the evergreen "Bye Week Blues." Sorry. You can't. You need to start maneuvering and preparing for the future.

You need a win, dude.

  • Be more aggressive and negotiate some trades.
  • Overvalue lateral trade moves that give you a serviceable player in place of someone on Bye
  • Spend your FAAB to pick up priority players before your leaguemates do

RB Rachaad White, TB

This is purely based upon Bucky Irving's apparent injury. While there could be a spectrum of information announced in the coming days, there's reason to believe Irving may be more injured than we initially thought. (read: f*!$#)

While Bucky did play out the rest of Week 4's matchup after missing a few plays from the injury:

Not great… (read: f*!$# sh$!)

If you're in the camp of believing Bucky could be missing some larger chunk of time, Rachaad White would be Tampa's replacement. No, he's not as exciting as Bucky. But for RB-needy teams, a starter is a starter.

RB Kendre Miller, NO

Let's play the "if" game. Alvin Kamara has been very vocal about wanting to retire with the Saints.

But IF the 0-4 Saints recognize that they need to start building for the future by cutting their losses, Kamara is a prime trade candidate.

And IF Kamara gets traded, Kendre Miller is the next guy up. He's already begun to emerge in New Orleans' offense in ways that many Best Ball Bros™ hoped he might last season (before the Dennis Allen IR Saga).

Even IF Kamara stays on the team, Miller's role is increasing. Miller turned 11 rushing attempts into 65 yards and a TD in Week 4. And his snap rates and rushing attempts have only been increasing over the last few weeks, which has resulted in more fantasy points each week (yay).

  • Week 2: 5-8-0
  • Week 3: 7-27-0
  • Week 4: 11-65-1

And his UR Score has gone up every week, as well:

So IF you've been beating your chest for Miller's rise these last few seasons… It's finally starting to look like Miller Time(™).

Other Buys

  • RB Saquon Barkley, PHI

SELL

RB Nick Chubb, HOU

STOP WITH THE D*CK JOKES. This is serious! Our Chubb is disappearing.

Nick Chubb's rushing attempts:

  • Week 2: 80%
  • Week 3: 60%
  • Week 4: 39%

I was rooting for Chubb after the strange "no time table" absence of Joe Mixon, but the hype train is quickly slowing down. Chubb's total of 188 yards and 1 TD through 4 whole weeks isn't the only sign of the come down.

The metaphorical blood is draining. Our Chubb is disappearing!

Woody Marks' rushing attempts:

  • Week 2: 20%
  • Week 3: 40%
  • Week 4: 52%

If you want an RB in Texas, you want the guy who can get it up quickly — the stats, that is. And Woody? Oh, he's getting it up.

Week 4:

  • Nick Chubb: 13-47-0
  • Woody Marks: 17-69-1

Goodbye, old Chubb. Hello, fresh Woody.

Other Sells

  • RB Jaylen Warren, PIT
  • RB Isaiah Pacheco, KC

HOLD

WR Romeo Doubs, GB

If you can't handle Romeo Doubs at his 3.5 fantasy points, you don't deserve him at his 26.8.

I'm mostly kidding, but there's a built-in rollercoaster that comes with Doubs. The good news is that it's somewhat predictable. Doubs flourishes when he should and doesn't when he shouldn't.

  • Week 3: 2-25-0 vs. Browns 📉 (CLE is allowing 8th fewest yards to WRs)
  • Week 4: 6-58-3 vs. Cowboys 📈 (DAL is allowing the most FPPG & most yards to WRs)

So what do we do with Doubs? Moving forward, he faces a few more juicy defensive matchups before hitting a wall vs CAR & PHI. If Doubs continues with his matchup-dependent production, he should have some start-worthy next games Weeks 6-8 after Green Bay's Bye in Week 5.

  • Week 6: Bengals 📈
    • 7th most yards to WRs
    • 8th most FPPG to WRs
    • 9th most rec to WRs
  • Week 7: Cardinals 📈
    • 2nd most recs to WRs
    • 8th most yards to WRs
  • Week 8: Steelers 📈
    • 3rd most yards to WRs
    • 5th most rec to WRs
  • Week 9: Panthers 📉
    • fewest yards
    • 2nd fewest FPPG
    • 2nd fewest rec to WRs

Hold for now. Sell before Week 9.

TE Darren Waller, MIA

LMAO. I haven't rostered a bonafide rapper on my fantasy team since 2018. (Miss you, Steelers-era Le'Veon Bell)

While I might be a little bit biased towards the dopamine rush that comes with a Darren Waller TD, I don't think I'm willing to take the easy route and chalk it all up to "wild luck" on his first game back since 2023.

No. This won't be the 2020 version of Darren Waller that put up 1,196 yards and 9 TDs with the Raiders. But he's come back to the game at a time when Miami really needs him. Tyreek Hill's injury is a huge blow to the offense and Waller might need to be on the field more than he was in Week 4 to help out.

TO BE CLEAR: If you're able to make a great trade and sell high - do it. Some leaguemates might be chomping at the bit for a double-TD TE. But we have to temper our expectations, given that Waller only played a handful of snaps in Week 4.

But if Waller continues to play a majority of his snaps lined up at WR anddd he starts to see more time on the field out of necessity… Well, that's enough for me to hang on and see where the Waller ride takes me.
