Buy, Sell, Hold: The case for Hunter Henry, a WR with red flags galore, and more!

Which WR has exactly 5 "red flags"? Which RB checks off three important list items? Cooterdoodle's first buy/sell/hold of the season is here!

These types of articles are always written inside of a vacuum, but you're not living inside of one! That's why you need to take your personal league scoring and roster construction into account when making buy/sell/hold decisions.

If you've got a S T A C K E D and jacked WR room, you can more easily take on the risk of a guy like Tyreek Hill. Me? Well… Read on to find out.

Let's get into some Buyin', Sellin', and Holdin.

BUY

TE Hunter Henry

This is for all of you degenerates who waited suuuuuper late to draft a tight end.

I see you…You like streamin', don't ya? You like a little late-round TE that could still make it into the elusive "top 8" club at the position, don't ya? Well, guess what? Me, too!

Let's play a game called "Name That 2024 Tight End":

Question 1: Which TE tied 5th for targets? Answer: Hunter Henry (97)

Question 2: Which TE tied 6th in receptions? Answer: Hunter Henry (66)

Question 3: Which TE finished 8th in receiving yards? Answer: Hunter Henry (674)

Question 4: Which TE had a 24% end zone target rate on the Patriots?...

Answer: Hunter F*cking Henry

Add in the fact that Henry is also a positive regression candidate, and you've got my interests piqued.

So now what? What should you give up to acquire him? Not much. Keep in mind: Hunter has consistently been drafted outside of the top-15 TEs this season. Hell, he may still be available on the waiver wire depending on your league size/settings.

But if you're streaming at the position or willing to take a swing at a TE with Top-8 upside… The answer just might be Hunter F*cking Henry.

RB Ollie Gordon

Yes, I'm still bangin' my chest on Ollie Gordon!!

Is it because I dropped Jaylen Wright for Ollie on August 18th, weeeeeks before it was cool? I mean, yea. Probably.

But it also has to do with the fact that Gordon looked incredible during the preseason. And because Achane is "simply not built for short-yardage work." But maybe it’s much simpler than that. Maybe I just always want at least one home-run backup RB who could hold some standalone value on my bench.

Home Run: No really, watch Ollie run.

Backup: Jaylen Wright is out until "September-ish". This is Ollie's spot, now.

Standalone Value: In 2022, it was Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson. In 2023, it was Mostert and De‘Von Achane. In 2024, it was Achane and Moster. In 2025…

You get it.

SELL

RBs in Cleveland

That's right. Quinshon Judkins, Dylan Sampson, and Jerome Ford.

Let's recap, shall we? At this point, Quinshon Judkins signing with the Browns feels "inevitable" by most reports. Well, if "inevitable" ever became synonymous with that one Chris Farley scene from the 1996 film, Black Sheep.

There are still a lot of question marks in the air:

Contract: Does Judkins ever sign with the Browns? And when??

NFL Prep: If Judkins does sign, how long will it take for him to be "game ready"?

Suspension: If Judkins does sign, will there still be a suspension in his future?

And there are still the issues of rookie Dylan Sampson and 'veteran' Jerome Ford. Who the hell is going to lead this backfield?!

EVEN IF I had a magic genie in my pocket who could tell me right now, this very second, who would be the RB1 in Cleveland, it still doesn't guarantee that they'll be utilized in a bell cow role. (I miss you, Nick Chubb)

Related: Ian also has 3 things to ask a genie this week

So if you're hoping for a long-shot, league-winner who might have a chance at carving out the RB1 role for the Browns, then sure… you can hold on to either of these three guys.

But whatever you do, be prepared to dig your heels in.

Ford or Sampson's stock tanks the second Judkins signs with the Browns (assuming he does).

Me? I don't trust an organization that chose to pay a bad QB $230m guaranteed while also choosing to spend the majority of their offseason rostering another 4 QBs. These decisions feel pretty, pretty, pretty… bad.

Someone else can roster the headache for now.

WR Tyreek Hill

Like I was saying in the intro, you might have a roster that's strong enough to take the risk that comes with Tyreek Hill. But when I see red flags, I want out.

And over the last year, there have been plenty of red flags waving in the wind as Hill's dissatisfaction with the Dolphins has become increasingly more evident.

🚩January: Hill wants out of Miami.

🚩July: Tua Tagovailoa needs Hill to work on himself.

🚩August: De'Von Achane catches strays from Hill.

🚩August: Miami's WR coach catches strays from Hill.

🚩September: Hill NOT named a captain for the Dolphins.

YIKES.

I know we're only one NFL season removed from Hill's 2023 season where he caught 119 balls for 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns. But these flags are just too much for me to ignore.

Maybe Hill continues to burn his bridges and finagles his way out of Miami via a  trade, boosting his fantasy value. But for now, I'm trying to finagle a trade of my own and get him off of my roster before this implodes.

WR Khalil Shakir

Rostering a WR1 on any team, regardless of the team, usuallyyyy bodes well in fantasy. Last season, for example, we watched some of the pissiest and poorest piss poor offenses bless their WR1 in fantasy (Hi, Malik Nabers).

But when it comes to the Bills, I'm just not convinced.

While I don't necessarily think the re-addition of Gabe Davis in Buffalo is the final nail in the coffin, it definitely doesn't help Shakir when he was already battling:

  • a high ankle sprain
  • Keon Coleman (57-556-4)
  • TD vultures from fast-footed Josh Allen
  • An offense that hasn't produced a true WR1 since… Stefon Diggs

Shakir might have a few fun weeks on this incredibly high-scoring offense, but good luck guessing which ones it will be. The consistency and predictability just isn't there. And for a guy whose ceiling is 6-100-1 with a floor of 2-20-0… I'm out.

HOLD

Your Rookies

Yes, JK Dobbins will likely have a good start to the season.

Sure, Rhamondre Stevenson is going to surprise (and frustrate) us.

And yea, The Najee Harris Eye Saga might feel like a fever dream come Week 2.

It’s fine. You drafted the rookie counterparts on these offenses for their massive upside later in the season. You probably won't see it come to fruition in Week 1. Be patient and don't panic.

AND DON'T LET THOSE SILLY LITTLE UNOFFICIAL DEPTH CHARTS SCARE YA.

Until next week, my friends! Good luck!!
