Week 3 Fantasy Football Injury Report: Jayden Daniels, Tucker Kraft And More Situations To Follow
Adam Ronis and Jorge Martin examine the Week 3 NFL injuries that have fantasy football implications, featuring Jayden Daniels, Brock Purdy and more.
Who thought we’d be here already? We’ve already had a significant number of QB injuries that will have a significant impact on teams in Week 3, with Joe Burrow being the toughest loss now that he’ll miss at least three months of the 2025 season to repair a turf toe injury. Justin Fields (concussion) and J.J. McCarthy (ankle) will also be on the sidelines this week, and they could have company. Superflex fantasy managers spent some major FAAB coin this week on the waiver wire on Jake Browning and, cough, Carson Wentz. And so it goes.
The quarterbacks were only the tip of the iceberg. Sorry if that reference reminds you of your team. There are several other injury situations that need to be monitored going into Sunday morning, and a few players already ruled out. Time to get into it. (Editor's Note: This article has been updated with information through Saturday evening)
Week 3 Injury Report For Fantasy Football
Quarterback
Jayden Daniels (Washington Commanders)
Daniels missed another practice on Thursday with a knee injury. Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury said McDaniels is “preparing mentally.” If Daniels doesn’t practice Friday, Marcus Mariota will likely start. If you have Daniels, make sure to have another quarterback ready to start. UPDATE: Daniels was ruled OUT after missing Friday's practice. Marcus Mariota is starting, which is a downgrade for Terry McLaurin, Deebo Samuel and Zach Ertz. How much is TBD, because in the early going the Raiders have been more beatable via the air. They are allowing 264.5 passing yards per game, seventh highest in the league. On the rushing side, RBs are being held to 48.5 yards, fifth fewest in the league. Mariota may be asked to win via the air, which could feed those pass catchers some target volume.
Brock Purdy (San Francisco 49ers)
Purdy was on the practice field at least part of the first two days. After Thursday’s practice, he intimated that this would come down to a decision on Sunday. Less than ideal for fantasy managers, who already had to fill in for Purdy last week. Keep an eye on the QB Streamers article for possible replacements for this week. If he sits, it looks like this could be the final week of his absence. UPDATE: Purdy may not be ruled out, as he may be designated the backup. That will hurt fantasy managers looking to put Purdy in an IR spot and pick someone up in the morning. This is a 4:25 p.m. ET game, so be ready with a different starter if Purdy was your starting QB.
Running Back
Zach Charbonnet (Seattle Seahawks)
Charbonnet was a DNP with a foot injury for the second straight day. Friday’s update could come with it an out designation, which would put the focus on Kenneth Walker III, who’s coming off an RB8 finish last week. If he has the backfield to himself, Walker will face a Saints defense that’s allowing 21.8 fantasy points per game, tied for ninth in the league. Christian McCaffrey just lit them up for 107 scrimmage yards and a TD last week. UPDATE: Charbs missing the week of practice makes it look like the doubtful designation will become an out sometime Sunday. This is a smash spot for KW3. Start him with confidence.
D'Andre Swift (Chicago Bears)
Swift was limited in the two practices to begin the week with a quad injury. It doesn’t seem the injury is serious enough to keep him out for the week. We’ll keep monitoring it, but for now plan for him to be an RB2 in your fantasy lineup if you have him. He has a decent matchup against the Cowboys, who are 12th in the league with 23 fantasy points allowed to RBs. UPDATE: Swift is expected to play. He's looking for his first 100-yard game on the season.
Tyrone Tracy (New York Giants)
Tracy was limited in both practices to start the week with a calf injury. Tracy lost snaps to Cam Skattebo last week. Skattebo played 51% of the snaps and Tracy was at 42%. Tracy is a risky play against a stout Chiefs’ run defense that is tied for sixth in fewest fantasy points given up to running backs (14.7). UPDATE: Tracy has no injury designation going into the Sunday night game, he may only be startable in deep leagues.
Wide Receiver
Christian Kirk (Houston Texans)
Kirk has been limited in both practices to start the week, so he is trending toward playing for the first time this season. The Texans could use some help from the veteran, as they are last in the league in points scored at 28. Kirk could become the WR2 in this offense, as no wideout other than stud Nico Collins has more than 5 targets through two games. In an AFC South matchup at Jacksonville, Kirk could just be eased back in. That makes him a TD-or-bust option. Maybe wait a week to see how much he plays.
Josh Downs (Indianapolis Colts)
The Indy slot WR didn’t practice on Wednesday with an ankle injury and returned to practice on Thursday. This is another example of Wednesday practice not being important as many players get rest days. After a quiet Week 1, Downs had 8 targets and caught 6 passes for 51 yards last week. He’ll be facing a Titans secondary that just allowed a combined 14 receptions, 197 yards and a touchdown to Puka Nacua and Davante Adams of the Rams. UPDATE: Downs has no injury designation and is a must start against a Titans defense allowing 44.2 fantasy points per game to WRs (third).
Emeka Egbuka (Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
The rookie is dealing with a hip/groin injury and missed the first two practices of the week. During the Monday night game, he was getting wrapped for the injury and played through it. If Egbuka doesn’t practice on Friday, he’s in danger of missing Sunday. Make plans to have a replacement for Egbuka. UPDATE: Check the morning inactives, but Egbuka is expected to play this week. The Jets are not the stout defense they have been against WRs, as they're just 17th in fantasy points allowed to the position.
Xavier Worthy (Kansas City Chiefs)
The speedster is dealing with a dislocated right shoulder and missed last week despite being limited in practice. Worthy was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday. Worthy has been running routes without extra padding on his right arm, unlike last week. The Chiefs are optimistic Worthy can return with a harness, as tough as that is to imagine for a WR. The Chiefs play Sunday night against the Giants, who are giving up the most fantasy points to wide receivers. CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens just did a number on the Giants in Week 2. UPDATE: Worthy has been ruled out, which is not a surprise. This means that Hollywood Brown should keep a larger role. While he won't likely see 16 targets like in Week 1, he should see more than the 5 last week. The matchup is too good, so he's very startable. Tyquan Thornton is another option as a dart throw.
Ladd McConkey (Los Angeles Chargers)
The DNP on Wednesday for a biceps injury became a full practice on Thursday. It’s looking like he’s full go for a home date against the Broncos, who just allowed 316 passing yards to Daniel Jones last week. Justin Herbert is off to a hot start for the Chargers, and McConkey is second on the team in targets (14) and receptions (11). He’s third in receiving yards at 122.
Wan'Dale Robinson (New York Giants)
Robinson was limited in practice on Thursday with a foot injury. Robinson was limited in practice last week with the same injury and played on Sunday against Dallas. Robinson had eight catches for 142 yards with a TD, but will face a tougher matchup this week against Kansas City. UPDATE: Robinson should play, as he's not on the Giants' final injury report. While the KC pass defense has been good in the past, it's 25th in fantasy points allowed through two weeks. The Giants could be playing from behind, opening up targets for Robinson after Malik Nabers gets his.
Jauan Jennings (San Francisco 49ers)
Jennings has now missed two practices with an ankle injury, coming right after he was limited with a shoulder injury. This is an ominous look going into the clash of the unbeatens between the 49ers and Cardinals, in San Francisco. While Arizona has looked better on defense, Tetairoa McMillan just posted 100 receiving yards against it last week. We’re keeping an eye on this one, but be ready to start Ricky Pearsall if you have him. UPDATE: Jennings did not practice on Friday, but he might still play. His being in the late window will make it hard, so have a backup plan.
Chris Godwin (Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
Limited practices the first two days should barely raise the hopes that he is not expected to start his season yet. Unless there is a big surprise, expect that he’ll be ruled out before Sunday. UPDATE: Godwin is out.
Tight End
Tucker Kraft (Green Bay Packers)
The fantasy community was in shambles for a bit when it was first reported that Kraft suffered a left knee injury that wasn’t season-ending. Reportedly, tests were fine and it was just a scare. It’s still not clear if Kraft will play this week and it’s best to have a backup plan. Luke Musgrave would be in play if Kraft was out, but look for more looks for WRs Romeo Doubs and Matthew Golden. UPDATE: After missing Friday's practice, Kraft was listed as questionable. Over the years, the Packers' training staff has gotten a reputation for being conservative. This could lead to Kraft sitting as a precaution. The big tight end will be one of the most followed player statuses leading up to the 1 p.m. ET deadline. Keep an eye on those inactives 90 minutes before first kickoff.
Tyler Warren (Indianapolis Colts)
Take a breath. Warren is fine. After not practicing on Wednesday with a toe injury, Warren was limited in practice on Thursday. Warren is the consensus TE4 by the Fantasy Life rankings. UPDATE: He has no injury designation. Proceed with confidence.
Brock Bowers (Las Vegas Raiders)
Bowers was limited the first two practice days after running a route on 81% of pass plays for the Raiders on Monday Night Football. Unless there is a setback before Sunday, expect Bowers to play in Washington in Week 3. The Commanders just surrendered a 6-124-1 line to Kraft in Week 2. UPDATE: Bowers no longer has an injury designation. He should be ready for a full snap share. We don't need to tell you to start him.
Isaiah Likely (Baltimore Ravens)
Likely has missed the first two games after undergoing foot surgery in late July. Likely was limited in practice again on Thursday and said he was “very close” to a return. It was a good sign that Likely could return this week considering the Ravens play Monday night against the Lions. The Monday game makes Likely a risky play unless we know he’s a full go. UPDATE: Likely has been ruled out. In spite of his rough start, Mark Andrews needs to be started in this MNF shootout.
Dallas Goedert (Philadelphia Eagles)
The Philadelphia TE has logged a pair of limited practices, making it look like he’ll be ready to return after missing last week with a knee injury. In the Eagles’ 28-22 victory over the Rams in the Divisional Round this past January, Goedert led the team with 56 receiving yards. As the TE34 in this week’s rankings, Goedert should be on fantasy benches until either the Eagles rev up the passing game, or face a team that can give them a game. The Rams could be one of those teams, but A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith need to be prioritized.
